Robertson, Ernie

Mr. Robertson has lived in Colwood since he was a young boy when his father was stationed to CFB Esquimalt with DND. He graduated from Belmont High School and served his first term on Colwood Council from 1993 to 1996, and was re-elected again in 1999. Mr. Robertson has been re-elected to consecutive terms of office since then. During his public service, Councillor Robertson has frequently filled in as Acting-Mayor, has served twice as Administration Chair and twice as Finance Chair. He also has leadership experience in heading up the City’s Parks and Recreation Committee and is a former Commissioner at the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society. Ernie is a former alternate rep. to the West Shore Chamber for Colwood, and has also been involved in supporting numerous community initiatives including the Canadian Forces Appreciation Day, Canada Day, Royal Roads Flower and Garden Show, Kids Day International celebrations to name a few. In his private life, Mr. Robertson is a certified mediator, trained through Royal Roads University, where he has plans to complete his Bachelor of Justice Studies Degree. As well, he is a representative with Primerica Financial Services, currently preparing for his Provincial certification as a licensed insurance agent, and recently, not to be busy enough, he is working on starting his own special-events photography business - right here in the West Shore. He is looking forward to joining the West Shore Chamber as soon as his business is up and running! Additionally, Councillor Robertson has never missed Remembrance Day Ceremonies in the West Shore, and proudly supports our veterans, most recently accepting an appointment to the Board of Directors for the Lost Veterans Society which has secured the donation of two condominium units for veterans through Colwood Council and the donation of these units by a local builder. During the past three years Mr. Robertson has overseen the re-organization and modernization of the City’s Finance Department to ensure better service delivery to residents and businesses in Colwood. This includes the preparation for online property tax payment, and the ability to obtain permits, business licenses and other City services online through an enhanced City website. His motto as Finance Chair to business has been “How can we serve you better?” To wit, Councillor Robertson remains an advocate of competitive business tax rates with our neighbouring West Shore municipalities to stimulate and attract new businesses to Colwood, and feels the entire City taxation scheme needs to be sensitive to businesses as we enter some leaner times economically. “I agree, that regardless of the current financial clouds that the West Shore has a bright and prosperous future and will help promote our community as best as I can always!”
