Szpak, Lillian

Back in 1993 when my military husband and I moved here with our two sons, it was a very different looking Langford. Anyone who has driven out here lately can’t help but to have noticed that we have undergone a transformation. Yes, Langford is well on its way. This year’s election ballot will seek your support in providing commuter rail, a vital transit link between Langford and Victoria, which along with housing affordability and diversity, is essential in continuing to grow as a healthy, sustainable community.

I would like to salute the long-time residents of Langford who have been here through the changes. And I would like to salute the relative newcomers as well as the volunteers and business people who tirelessly contribute to our community. We all saw the potential and embraced the opportunity to transform our beautiful city. I am proud of our residents and privileged to be part of the Council that was and still is the instrument for their vision.

I have served you on Langford Council since 2002, and for the past six years I worked tirelessly on your behalf. Here are some of the areas in which I bring your voice forward:
• Chair Protective Services Committee
• Chair Planning and Zoning
• Member of Administration and Finance
• Vice-chair Capital Regional Services Telecommunications Board
• CRD Water Representative to the Regional Water Supply Commission and Juan de Fuca Water Distribution Commission
• Chair Treaty Advisory Committee

With your continued support and participation, I will work with you and your Council to make timely, informed and sound decisions that ensure a great lifestyle. In addition, I will continue to strive to provide our residents with one of the lowest tax rates in British Columbia. Over the next three years, I will work hard toward Langford’s Green Action Strategy to implement changes that will have a positive impact on all aspects of our day-to-day lives, from food sustainability to transportation networks and rain garden pilot projects. We will continue to make improvements that will benefit our lives and make it possible for our children to find a future here as well. Thank you for your support!
