Johannesen, Sigurd

My family was fortunate; we found property in the Highlands and made the best decision of our lives when we bought here nearly six years ago.  We love the Highlands, we love the people and we love the rural lifestyle. We want to see that the Highlands continues to prosper, we want to maintain the current lifestyle and we want the Highlands to be sustainable into the future.

As Vice Chair of the Highlands District Community Association (HDCA) and as the HDCA Coordinator for the Highlands Emergency Local Preparedness Program or HELP, I have been active in the community.  I have also volunteered for eight years as part of West Shore Emergency Social Services including four years on the management team.

I am currently employed in the High Tech Industry.  This followed 28 years of military service in progressively senior appointments.  I have managed multi-million dollar budgets and projects and have been responsible for very large staffs both in Canada and abroad.  I attended Royal Roads Military College in Colwood and subsequently earned a degree in Engineering.  I am Vice Chair of the Queenswood Centre on Arbutus Road and have recently been appointed to the Royal Roads Legacy Campaign in support of the Robert Bateman Art and Environmental Centre.

I am passionate about the Highlands.  I am both flexible and balanced in my approach to solving problems.  I am committed to no new taxes by adequately planning for the future.  I will work to protect the environment and ensure clean water for all Highlanders.  I will work to protect Highlands’ aquifers – aquifers that are important to the entire region.

I believe that the best way to move forward to set attainable goals for the future.  I will work with all members of council to set those goals and will also work with the entire community to attain those goals.  I am committed to fostering cooperation and open communication.

The last three years have been challenging for the Highlands. I ask you to vote for me and together we will work for this wonderful community that we all love.

Thank you.
Sigurd
