Swinburnson, Margot

Milnes Landing Zone

Married: three children ages 26, 23 and 19
Occupation: Case Manager, Vancouver Island Health Authority, working in the Seniors at Risk Integrated Network.

I am running for my fourth term as a school trustee, Milnes Landing Zone.
I KNOW we have some of the best schools, some of the best students, some of the best staff in the province and in Canada in our School District!

In the next three years, our Board will face enormous change, and great opportunity, to positively affect the education of our children in the future. We have buildings that are reaching the end of their life span that need to be replaced. This will not happen without careful planning, focus and lobbying on the part of the Board, with community support and consultation.

In the next three years,
• The Board needs to continue with the public consultation process about schools in the District.
• High schools in both zones need attention, with Belmont desperately needing to be replaced and expansion needed at EMCS. We must include the community in the process.
• The Board must keep encouraging dialogue and co-operation between our administration and the municipalities as we grow.
Specific goals that I have for the next three years are
• To  continue to be fiscally responsible as a trustee and member of an Executive Board
• To actively lobby for provincial support for the new high school in the Belmont Zone, expansion and renovation in the Milnes Landing Zone.
• To encourage literacy, both for adults and children
• To encourage and promote Green schools, and environmentally friendly practice
• Continuing support for educational excellence in all fields.

Through all the changes and challenges, we need to keep the focus on what is important. As your trustee, I will ensure that the educational needs of our children will be brought forward to the Board and the Province. I pledge ethical, positive, student focused leadership as a Board of Education trustee..
Thank you for your support now, and for the last 9 years.
