Britton, Andrew

Andrew Britton has lived in View Royal since 2000 with his wife, Mairi, and daughter, Francesca. Andrew has serviced View Royal as Councillor since 2005 and is the Chair of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Andrew is a full time paramedic chief with BC Ambulance Service stationed in Esquimalt.

While on Council we have made many accomplishments for the residents. We passed a secondary suit bylaw, added more parkland, increased our cycling infrastructure as well as increased our sidewalks. Our voices with CRD successfully lobbied for the E&N Rail Trail. We applied for and received a 7.5 million dollar grant to improve Island Highway, as well as sidewalks along both sides of Island Highway from Six Mile Bridge to Colwood border. We lobbied for the eliminated the two fare zone with BC Transit as well as had an additional route added (53 Atkins Road). We completed the town’s master plans for parks, drainage, and transportation and we are currently undergoing an OCP review.

Over the past three years I have gained experience to help View Royal go through the economic downturn. As such we need to be more vigilant on projects to ensure they do not come at a cost to taxpayers. Staff will explore every opportunity for grants, amenity funding, and casino revenue. I will continue to listen to the community with their suggestions on how to keep our community vibrant, sustainable, and livable. Work on an environmental sustainable sewage treatment system.

As councilors we need to keep informed with what our community is saying and represent their concerns while keeping a careful balance ensuring our tax rates remain one of the lowest in the region. We need to encourage businesses to come to View Royal to ensure workability rather the reliance on a vehicle. We need to continue to work on improving transportation through our community. I will continue to be your voice on council.
