Rast, Heidi

Dear Residents,

I would like to take a few moments of your time to share with you who I am, my background history and my three main priorities if elected.

To begin with, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, in 1999.  For the past nine years I have been employed with the federal government as a Research Technician and for the last four years I have been a proud resident of View Royal that loves and appreciates the unique characteristics of this “small-town” community.

If elected, I intend to focus on three main areas: municipality-resident communication, wise and responsible development, and sustainability.  First, communication between Town Hall and residents needs to be improved.  I would like to see the establishment of a monthly notice in the Goldstream News for View Royal, consolidating information on key issues, upcoming events, and development proposals. I also hope to see the up-grading of the current municipal web-page to both contain more up-to-date information and to improve its ease of use.

Second, I would like to encourage responsible development that, among other priorities, is also sensitive to a longer view of sustainable development and encourages an integrated and intimate community experience.

Third, I would like to see View Royal take the next step from pilot project and commit to a comprehensive, community-wide curb-side organics collection.  Also, I would like to see the Community Garden program expanded to other areas of the municipality to make it more accessible to a larger portion of our residents. Lastly, I strongly support the continued exploration of a growing diversity of transportation options, including the E&N Rail Trail and expanding pedestrian/cycling pathways.

Thank you for letting me share my vision with you.  I look forward to the possibility of serving our community’s needs in the new council.

Sincerely,
Heidi Rast
