I have served as a View Royal Councillor since 1996. I am married with one daughter, and lived in our community for over 38 years. Before my current position as a Systems Analyst (18 years), I was a Probation Officer for 15 years. I have been an active member of numerous committees, task forces and commissions.
I am proud of Council’s contributions to the residents and the region. We addressed secondary suites, improved cycling and pedestrian safety, acquired 17 acres of new parkland/green space, obtained a $7.5 million improvement grant for the Island Highway, had the two-zone bus fare abolished, and promoted light rapid transit. We joined the Westshore Parks & Recreation Society and the CRD Arts Committee and successfully lobbied for the 18 km E&N Rail Trail. We approved many significant development projects, including the long awaited casino expansion. We completed the town’s master plans for parks, transportation and drainage.
I have the experience and commitment to ensure View Royal withstands any economic uncertainty while still having responsible governance and well-maintained infrastructure. Let us keep View Royal’s taxes amongst the lowest in the region by having cost efficient administration, leveraging our casino revenue with grants and amenity funding ($10 million this past term) and developing a vibrant, enduring business community. I will work for creative, sustainable solutions for regional issues such as sewage treatment, climate change, and the shortage of senior care facilities.
By being better informed, residents and businesses can be more involved in municipal affairs. I will strive to make our town hall more effective with a standardized application development process. Frequent newsletters and a re-designed website will help meet the demands for current, relevant information. Lastly, I will endevour to have the Official Community Plan Review completed in 2009.
